Baia Mare Champions! Baia Mare defeated cup-holders Timisoara to claim the EDF Energy Cup after an impressive debut season. Another debutant, Ricany took bronze to avenge their season-opening defeat and beat an injury-ravaged Bulldogok. Donau remain holders of the Wooden Spoon for the second year running after a defeat to Dragon Brno.

Saturday will mark the end of this year’s EDF Energy Cup, the Central and Eastern European Rugby Cup. Three thrilling encounters will decide the winners, the medal winners and the last placed teams of the 2009/10 season.

The Gala will kick off at 1 o’clock with the Wooden Spoon Game, which features Austrians Donau Wien against Czechs Dragon Brno. The Bronze Match, at 3, will present the pride of Hungary, Buldogok, who face RC Ricany for a place on the podium. The Final itself will kick off at 5 and it features a meeting of familiar foes, Timisoara, last year’s champions will try to hold on against fellow Romanian powerhouse Baia Mare.

There were no surprises in the Semi-Finals of the Energy Cup. Both Romanian teams advanced to the final with relative ease. Timisoara overcame Bulldogok and Baia Mare beat Ricany to set up an All-Romanina Energy Cup Final. Ricany will face Bulldogok in the bronze game as a re-match of the first game of the season.

Ricany overcame adverse weather conditions to claim their first CEE Rugby victory beating Hungarian cup-winners Vitézek 26-10. Ricany now await the winners of the Donau Wien-Baia Mare Quarter-Final next Saturday.
